Ukraine Says Russia Shuts Down All Gas Supplies to Europe
By RockoftheMarne Wed Jan 07, 2009 08:30 AM
All gas supplies to Europe via Ukraine were shut down Wednesday as the pricing dispute between Russia and Ukraine escalated. The European Union called for an immediate solution to the crisis.
The cutoff showed the first signs of hitting the European economy as the Hungarian unit of the Japanese automaker Suzuki said it was halting production because of restrictions on industrial users of gas. The Hungarian news agency MTI quoted a spokeswoman as saying Suzuki hoped to restart production Monday.
The Ukrainian gas company Naftogaz accused Gazprom, the Russian gas monopoly, of halting all transshipments at 7:44 a.m. Wednesday. But in Berlin, Aleksandr I. Medvedev, Gazprom’s deputy chief executive, told journalists that it was Naftogaz, the Ukrainian company, that had closed a fourth pipeline, ending all transshipments to Europe.

Hamas in Trouble
By AntiHippie Wed Jan 07, 2009 07:37 AM
Israel finally finds its balls. Fed up with constant rocket attacks on civilian targets, they're punishing Hamas and the Paleosimians who support them. Of course, whenever a terrorist is in trouble, count on Western liberals to ride to their rescue. How long will these gains last, before Zeropean socialists ensure all their gains go up in smoke?

McCarthy: ‘Breaking the Will of the Palestinians’ -- Stop Protecting Sub-human Scum!
By PissNVinegar Wed Jan 07, 2009 01:35 AM
Our best means of bringing about that urgently needed outcome is to nullify the militarily overmatched Palestinians’ primary asset: the skewed state of international politics and international law.On the political front, it is high time to acknowledge the failure of the fantasy that the Palestinians are legitimate actors worthy of statehood and its privileges. Contrary to the prevailing elite view, legitimacy is not conferred by such facile exercises as the holding of popular elections — though such exercises are not without consequences, which we will come to momentarily. There are certain minimal requirements for statehood, not least of which is accepting the right of one’s sovereign neighbor to exist.

Obama's warning to Israel
By mahalo Tue Jan 06, 2009 10:38 PM
Obama's timing, after the strike on the school, signals the direction the U.S. will turn in its attitude to the region: It will support Israel, but will oppose any harming of Palestinian civilians. This means that Israel will find it difficult to close the crossings into the Gaza Strip at will.

Ding-diong: Europe faces energy crisis as Vladimir Putin cuts Russian gas supply
By MadRusski Tue Jan 06, 2009 10:02 AM
Europe has been plunged into an energy crisis after Vladimir Putin ordered Russia's state-run gas company to cut supplies by 20 per cent.
As temperatures dropped below zero across much of Europe, the Russian prime minister instructed the head of Gazprom: "Cut it - starting today."
The cut was ordered to punish neighbouring Ukraine, which Russia accuses of topping up its own gas supply by siphoning off energy meant for European consumers and sent through its pipelines.

Hanson: The Gaza Rules -- Completely at Odds with Past Protocols of War
By PissNVinegar Tue Jan 06, 2009 12:04 AM
The Israelis just struck back hard at Hamas in Gaza. In response, the United Nations, the European Union and the Arab world (at least publicly) expressed their anger at the killing of over 300 Palestinians, most of whom were terrorists and Hamas officials.
For several prior weeks, Hamas terrorists had been daily launching rockets into Israeli towns that border Gaza. The recent volleys of missiles had insidiously become more frequent — up to 80 a day — and the payloads larger. Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists were reportedly supplying their own training and expertise.
These terrorists point to the Lebanon war of 2006 as the proper template for provoking an Israeli counter-response that will bog down the Israeli Defense Forces in the streets of urban Gaza and ensure that Palestinian civilians are harmed on global television.

In Gaza, they don’t vote for Hamas because they want access to university education. Or, if they do, it’s to get Junior into the Saudi-funded Hamas-run Islamic University of Gaza, where majoring in rocket science involves making one and firing it at the Zionist Entity.
[Westerners, particularly the diplomatic elite, seem to entertain a fantasy that assumes otherwise. It's not about land, economics, past grievances at all. Steyn explains.]

Obama should speak up now in support of Israel
By mahalo Sun Jan 04, 2009 10:51 PM
Before the election, many of Obama's backers contended in these pages that Obama would continue America's long-standing support for the Jewish state. If so, he should say so, loud and clear.
And while Obama and his advisers are understandably reluctant to undermine the Bush administration's positions by contradicting them before he takes office, as many on the Left passionately desire, there is no such risk in reinforcing Bush's message by echoing it in his own, eloquent way.

The rest of the leaders of the civilized world say every nation has the right to defend itself. ... Even the Arabs privately detest Hamas and 85% of them welcome the Israeli clean up of the Gaza rat's nest. ... The EU is officially in favor of it. ... But just hours after the Czech president of the European Union said the action was "defensive, not offensive" France, of course, issued the dreaded CONDEMNATION of Israel for not allowing a continuation of Hamas playfully launching thousands of rockets on women, children, hospitals, tourists, and schools.
